One of the best ways to learn anything and certainly writing movie reviews is one subject you canlearn, is to copy. Now I don't mean copy as in being plagiarized, I mean as in to learn from the style and content of successful movie reviewers. Rote learning has a lot going for it. We all engage in learning by copying in many different ways.
The simplest and best step to take is to obtain some DVDs of movies which have been reviewed. You need the movie and their reviews. For instance you could search online for movie reviews and when you find them, print a copy and store it in your file headed ‘Movie Reviews’.
Then you obtain the DVD of the movie for which you have a review/sand then you do two things. First you watch the movie and second you read the review.
So you've watched the movie on a DVD in the comfort of your own home and now you're reading through the review written by a successful movie reviewer. Take notes about what the reviewer said. Having just watched the movie, reading the review will be easy to understand. Ask questions about the reviewer’s work.
Do they explain the plot of the movie and, if so, how much detail do they reveal? Do they talk about the actors and comment on their performances? Do they talk about the direction involved in the movie? Do they talk about special effects and music?
All these things are important and relevant and by studying a film and then a review or more than one review of the film, you get the hang of how the successful movie reviewers go about their trade. Learn from the professionals.
There are many wonderful opportunities to become involved in what may well be your passion. Reviewing movies could well become your favourite job.
